Floodplain Ordinance

Jefferson County’s adoption of the Floodplain Ordinance makes it possible for residents of Jefferson County to obtain flood insurance under the FEMA flood insurance program. The Engineering Department administers the Floodplain Ordinance which requires that any structures and/or the subdivision of land located in the flood hazard areas of Jefferson County comply with the regulations. The floodplain manager provides floodplain delineation determinations and base flood elevation determinations, reviews Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) and Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) submissions, and maintains the floodplain maps for Jefferson County.

Floodplain Information Pamphlet

In Jefferson County, flooding and other drainage problems can result after several inches of rain in a short period of time or after several days of continued rain. Over the past 20 years, our community has experienced numerous storms or rainfall events causing flood damage. If you are looking at buying a property, it is a good idea to check out the possible flood hazards before you buy. The Dept of Enginnering, Planning, & Zoning has created a Floodplain Information Pamphlet for prospective property owners.
